I am reminded today of all the trite aphorisms that my father provided me during my life, for example:
If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen
People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones
If you are going to dish it out, you had better be able to take it
There is always someone bigger, tougher and meaner
I am reminded because of all the moaning, groaning, mewling, and other grotesquely insincere noises coming from those who are “shocked, I tell you, shocked” at Michelle Wolf’s comments at the White House Correspondents Dinner.
First, and I am quoting Ms. Wolf here, “what did you expect? Did you not watch any of my material?” I mean really – she was INVITED to do this. Anyone who had an IQ above 78 and watched her do her thing could have given you an accurate depiction of what was going to happen. Proof Positive – morons exist at every level of government and media.
Second, to all those who claim that Ms. Wolf mocked Sarah Huckabee Sander’s appearance, I once again quote Ms. Wolf, “go back and listen again to the joke”. Burning facts and using the ashes to create smokey eyes is not a comment on SHS’s appearance. It is, however, a hilarious jibe at SHS’s handling of the truth. If you see this as an attempt to body-shame, it is because you want to, not because its true. And, oh, by the way, if you listen to ALL of Michelle Wolf’s bit, you will find a jibe at Chris Christie’s weight and Mitch McConnell’s face. Funny that no one is rushing to scream, yell and be loudly “shocked” by those comments. Wonder why?
Third, in comparing the rudest and crudest that Ms. Wolf delivered compared to our “grab ‘em by the pussy”, Mexicans are rapists, some of the neo-Nazi’s are good people comments issued by our Liar-in-Chief (let alone the equally unacceptable racist, homophobic and misogynist utterances and outright lies of many in his administration), I found Ms. Wolf’s comments to be funny, biting, and good satire. All of which means her material had the echo of truth to it and that is something that the Trump administration clearly lacks.
And, finally, the truth of the matter is the same reality that all bullies possess…..they can dish it out, but they can’t take it. True of Trump, true of his minions like Sarah Huckabee Sanders, true of his advisors like Steve Bannon, and true of his incompetent cabinet appointees like Ben Carson and Scott Pruitt. Tough guys all until somebody with a quick wit and smart mouth shuts them up.
Good on you, Michelle Wolf, good on you. If they can’t take a joke, fuck ‘em.
You left out, “Sticks and stones may break your bones, but names can’t hurt you.”
I do disagree with one innuendo you made regarding the “entertainer’s” remarks about SHS and the subsequent reactions (or lack thereof) vis-a-vis her “jokes” about McConnell and Christie. These gentlemen weren’t sitting a few feet away when the remarks were made so they came across as more of a “hit job” or “drive-by shooting” against SHS in my opinion. But, as you pointed out, “Anyone who had an IQ above 78 and watched her do her thing could have given you an accurate depiction of what was going to happen. Proof Positive – morons exist at every level of government and media.” So, since it’s doubtful everyone in the media is a moron, it would seem what happened is exactly what someone wanted to see happen…which is sad all by itself.
I do find it a glaring omission that you did not comment about Ms. Wolf’s tasteless and crude attempt at humor regarding abortion. I mean really, regardless of where you stand on abortion, how can it be OK to joke about it??
Most of all it was another missed opportunity by the media…
